Western Jewish Songs from Spain, Italy, and France in Ladino and French. Contrary to eastern Jewish music, music of western European Jews touches us with a Mediterranean warmth and a more prominent sense of self-esteem.
Some of the songs rediscovered and collected by pianist Stefan Eder have never been heard before in Dresden. They are real rarities with a particularly appealing sound. Frequent references to oriental musical styles will be perceived, mixed with a broad variety of old Spanish texts. The interpretation by counter-tenor Yves-Michael Kiffner gives these songs another special touch.
